Arriving in New Zealand

Of course there are many airlines that have routes that include visiting New Zealand and Australia.  Generally flights from the UK terminate at  Auckland but Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Queenstown and Palmerston North also have international flight facilities.  Internal flights are generally catered for by Air New Zealand and Quantas Airways.

Auckland airport is located close to the city centre, the journey taking from around 40 minutes up to an hour.  Transport from the airport is by buses which run every 20 - 30 minutes or by taxis that operate from outside of all terminals.  Fares range from $15 for buses to $65 for a taxi.

Christchurch airport is very close to the city being only around 15 minutes journey time.  Buses run every half hour on weekdays and one hour at weekends and cost around $5, whereas taxis cost $25 and shuttle buses up to $20.

Wellington airport is also around 15 - 30 minutes from the city centre and transport is provided via the 'Stagecoach flyer' which stops at various points along the way for a fare of between $3 and $8 depending upon the distance travelled.  There are also shuttle buses operating door to door services with fares varying with the distance travelled and the number of passengers.  Then, of course, there are the taxis charging fares of between $20 and $95 dependant upon your destination.

Dunedin airport is around 30 km from the city of Dunedin and is served by shuttle buses which have a fare of between $20 - $60 per person dependant upon how many mates you can get to go with you.  Taxi fares vary between $60 and $90 one way.  More than likely though the UK traveller will have hired a car.  The booking desks for rental cars are to be found inside the airport.

Hamilton airport has an airport shuttle service that transports the visitor the 14 kilometres to the city centre in around half an hour and costs around $22.  There are also taxis available outside the terminal and car rental stands inside it.

Queenstown airport is one of the world's most beautiful in the world.  Views of the mountains will captivate the visitor even before he/she lands.  The airport, which is located 10kms away from the city at Frankton has several transport services available to it.  The Queenstown 'shopper' bus runs every half hour and has a number of stops on the way for a fare of $5.  The journey time is around 20 minutes.  There are also two companies that provide a city centre shuttle service with fares ranging from $7 to $10 per person. The taxis at this airport charge $20 from airport to city centre.

Palmerston North airport is only 5kms from the city centre and is reached within 12 minutes by taxi or car.  A variety of shuttle services are available to transport the visitor to many places throughout the region.
