Bay of Plenty

Geography:  The Bay of Plenty is in the east of the North Island and is an area of 259 km of coastline from the base of the Coromandel Peninsular in the west to Cape Runaway in the east.  The islands up to 12 miles from the coast off the coast including the actively volcanic Whakaari (White) Island are included in the region.  Most of the region is within the Taupo Volcanic Zone and as such is alive with geothermal activity.

Attractions:  Too many activities to describe in detail but includes sea fishing trips, swimming with Dolphins, cruising, scuba diving, jet boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, surfing and windsurfing.  For the even more adventurous there are helicopter rides, volcanic air safaris, flying a Gyro-plane and even flying a jet-liner.  Or you can just relax and climb the volcanoes or spend hours being fascinated by mud pools, geysers or watching Maoris at work with their crafts.

Tauranga’s harbour  provides the an attractive waterfront setting. Fishing, sailing, diving and dolphin tours are easy to arrange, or check out one of the local beauty spots – McLaren Falls or the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park. Rotorua and Whakatane.
Rotorua and the surrounding areas are alive with geothermal activity, with geysers, boiling mud pools, and steaming craters everywhere. Rotorua is also a must see place for anyone interested in Maori cultural activities. DO NOT MISS IT.
