Canterbury

Geography: The largest region of New Zealand, Canterbury is located along the eastern side of the South Island.  The region is divided between the Canterbury plains and the surrounding mountains.  The plains are relatively dry and droughts are common, however the land is largely used for fairly intensive livestock farming.  Wine is also grown in the Canterbury region primarily around the towns of Waipara and Christchurch.
