Hawkes Bay

Geography:  The region is situated on the east coast of the North Island.  The region includes the hilly coastal land around the northern and central bay, the floodplains of the Wairoa river in the north, the wide fertile Heretaunga Plains around to the south, and a hilly interior stretching up into the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.

Attractions:  Stacks of things to do in this region including: Bird watching, wine tasting, walks in gardens and parks, cycling, fishing (inc. Trout), hunting, golf, jet boat tours, balloon rides, paragliding etc.  There are also plenty of well marked tracks around the bay area as well as in the nearby national parks.  Some of these walks can be better appreciated with the help of the guides that are available.  This list is not exhaustive by any means.

Hastings is located on the Heretaunga Plains and is known for it's local honey and 'Wattie's Tomato Sauce'.  It also has the largest water park in Hawkes Bay which draws large crowds. 
The city of
Napier is a major port lying to the south of Hastings, Napier attracts tourists to admire it's Art Deco architecture having been rebuilt in this period after an earthquake.  It also has a Museum, and Art Gallery and the National Aquarium.
