New South Wales |
|
Geography: New South Wales can be divided into four discrete areas viz. a coastal strip, the mountains of the Great Dividing Range, the agricultural plains and the dry remote plains in the north west of the state. The coastal strip borders on the Tasman sea. The largest city is the state capital of Sydney. The highest temperature recorded in NSW was 50ºC at Wilcannia in the semi-arid plains and the lowest -23ºC at Charlotte Pass in the Snowy Mountains. |

Attractions: The mountains and, in
particular, Mount Kosciuszko, provide visitors with a chance to ski in the
winter and go bush walking in the summer. Routes from Charlotte Pass allow
the walker access to the snowy mountain range. Other ways to enjoy yourself in the area include Hiking in one of the huge number of national parks and reserves, horse-riding, 4x4 driving on the dunes, wine tasting in the Hunter Valley, fishing or playing golf. On the coast there are many activities to attract the active visitor including whale watching, wind surfing, scuba diving, cruising around the bays looking for dolphins and paragliding. Or simply stretch out on a sandy beach soaking up the sun, taking care not to become sun-burnt.
For those that prefer city life, a visit to Sydney is a must. Apart
from fabulous shops, restaurants and cafes, there's an aquarium, Sydney
Tower with fabulous views of the famous bridge and opera house, Ocean
world where diving with sharks is an option, or go to wildlife world at
Darling harbour where Australia's wild life can be viewed at close
quarters. |
