Geography: Northland, the Far North, the Winterless North are all names used to this region because of it's location at the most northerly tip of North Island.  The climate is sub-tropical with daytime temperatures between 14º in winter and 28º in summer.  The west coast has long sandy beaches, the most famous of which is the 88km long ninety mile beach and the East coast is more rugged with many natural bays, the most famous of which is the Bay of Islands.
