|
Geography: South Australia
is largely made up of arid or semi-arid rangelands, low
mountains and salt lakes. The SA coastline is 1540 miles in length.
There are 4 distinct areas within SA, these are 1) the western prairie, 2)
the basin of the lower Murray river, 3) the rift valley and 4) the Lake
Eyre basin. The climate of SA is has a Mediterranean feel but the Lake Eyre basin is the driest area of Australia and the interior is very hot in summer. |

Attractions: Where do we start? For
wine lovers the area is unsurpassed in Australia for fine wines grown at
over 400 wineries in the Barossa region. For wild life watchers, the
Flinders ranges offers opportunities to observe kangaroos, wallabies,
dunnarts (small marsupial mammals) and bats as well as parrots, galahs
(type of cockatoo), echidnas (spiny ant-eater), emus, eagles, snakes,
reptiles etc. etc. The Yorke and Eyre peninsulas offer spectacular views of the sea from rugged cliffs, long sandy beaches and a number of national parks, reserves and native bush to explore. Driving a 4x4 in this area is useful as some parts of the parks are not accessible to other cars. Adelaide is the capital city of SA
